Sunday Snippetts

Mirror, mirror. what do you see???

A daughter of God, talents, wrinkles, strength, tiredness, trying, love, stunner, courage, good listener, some not sure, just to name a few. Today we listened to the song, "Sisters in Christ" and a special picture was passed around for the sisters to look at. That picture reflected each and every sister in the room. As the sisters looked at their own reflection they were asked to see what they see. Sisters, we all have talents, strengths, weaknesses, beauty beyond belief, love, compassion and support & the the beauty of our Relief Society Sisters is that we are able to share this with one another, sometimes there are delicate issues of which we don't share with all but know that there are those who one can confide in & of course we never go past our first port of call, with Heavenly Father, on bended knee.

How has Relief Society Blessed your Life?

The loving, caring, service, sacrifice & unity that I see among the sisters strengthens my testimony of Sisters in Christ reaching out to those who are in need of love and the sense of belonging in our family. Your examples of christ like love is remarkable. I am very grateful for your examples. Each one of you hold a special part in me as you shine your individual talents. You are all stunners & each time you look at your reflection remember to smile & know that you are a loved daughter of God & that you have wonderful talents, give yourself a pep talk if you're not seeing the beautiful sister that I see. You should see eyes that sparkle with love, a smile that's as gentle as a dove and remember that no woman in a movie or and ad is as beautiful as YOU.

Sometimes our lives take unexpected turns and we have to move from "plan A to plan B or C" and makes us focus on our spiritual & personal growth. With the love and guidance from Heavenly Father & the love that each of you have for the Savior we are able to help and strengthen one another. Sometimes our plans are not meant to be but knowing that Heavenly Father has a plan for us gives us peace.

Visiting Teaching Moment

Sis Aletia and young Jane did a sharing time spot today. Jane was asked some questions about herself, like was she a Princess, was she gorgeous, what the message of christmas was & how special she was & likewise how special each and every sister is. Sis Aletia told us to "beat the christmas rush and do your visiting teaching early".

Sunday Snippett - 9th Nov

Some of theYW joined us this week as they normally do once a month, which is always nice to share a lesson together. Sis Ellen had us listen to a piece of music by an orchestra; it sounded really good. When you learn to play an instrument it takes a lot of practice to create a good sound & even more time & sacrifices are required to try for perfection. Now, when you put an orchestra together, think of the practice that is required to bring such harmonies together & sound so magnificent. Our unity is similar, we must each discover the music and our love creates the harmony. If we are dedicated in having the right attitude, focusing on the Savior & are willing to put in the hard work we will be able to 'stand fast through the storms of life'. We can choose to be thankful or we can say 'woe is me'. It is better to transform our trials or afflictions & soldier on. Our dear Prophet, Joseph Smith was a great example of showing how to go forward with courage as he still carried out his responsibilities to the Lord, after being beaten, scratched, tarred & feathered by an angry mob. No one said life was easy & the Lords way is not always easy as trials put us to the test. #30 'Come, come ye saints, no toil nor labor fear, but with joy, wend your way. Though hard to you this journey may appear, grace shall be as your day. Tis better far for us to strive, our useless cares from us to drive, do this and joy your hearts will swell, all is well, all is well.' We can choose to make our lives miserable or we can make good, ask yourself which are you doing now??????

We Are Beloved Spirit Daughters..........

We are beloved spirit daughters of God and our lives have meaning, purpose and direction as a worldwide sisterhood, we are united in our devotion to Jesus Christ, our Savior and exemplar.
We are women of faith, virtue, vision and charity who;

Increase our testimonies of Jesus Christ through prayer and scripture study
Seek spiritual strength by following the promptings of the Holy Ghost
Dedicate ourselves to strengthening marriages, families and homes
Find nobility in motherhood and joy in womanhood
Delight in service and good works
Love life and learning
Stand for truth and righteousness
Sustain the Priesthood as the authority of God on earth
Rejoice in the blessings of the Temple, understand our divine destiny and strive for exaltation.

Sis Bonnie took our lesson this week based on the opening sentence of the Relief Society Declaration & also a section from the Relief Society Presidency Manual, "help the sister help herself". Getting back to basics by doing daily prayers, holding family home evening, scripture study, visiting teaching, attending Sacrament Meetings. Because we love the Lord, we will want to help ourselves by doing these things which the Lord wants us to do & it will help identify what's important & what's not. If you have a copy of the song, 'His Hands', do yourself a service and have a listen to it & feel of the Lords love; play it again if you have to.
Each of our Presidency bore testimonies of our Savior and his love as did Bronwen, Collette, Kym & Merle. Bec sang & played a beautiful song, 'I am of worth, infinite worth....I'll grow in his love.....my savior, redeemer loves me...I'll be all he wants me to be.......i will praise him.....I will serve him.......' another beautiful song which will motivate you also to love yourself & show the Lord how much you love him. So Sisters, be kind to yourselves, let your love shine & you will glow brighter than the brightest star at night.
We love you & appreciate what you do for one another xxxxoooo

Halloween - Witches of the East

Friday night broom sticks were fired up & witches headed for the La Cantina for a tasty meal, cooked fresh in the caldron. The meal consisted of frogs, cockroaches, grubs, flies, unmentionables & pasta eeeh eeeeh eeeeh eeeeh. Lots of pranks were played & lots of laughter. And yes we were the only ones dressed for the occasion in the restaurant & fortunate for them they escaped without being cursed. There were a few cries of witches laughter as patrons left the restaurant as a goodbye gesture. A young boy, McKenzie, was dining with his Dad for his birthday so we all sang the primary happy birthday song to him & presented him with a caldron of spell binding goodies. The whole restaurant went silent as we sang. It was incredible. Afterwards some flew to Maccas for a hot choc or sundae before heading off into the night. Check out these ole haggs!

Life Be In It

Kym in action on the pitch......woo you go girl
.........and the winners are!!!!

Yesterday it was our Ward Picnic @ Myrtle Park. It was a perfect day for it with sun, cool breeze, ginormous jack jumpers, grazing, fun, laughter, games, crosswords, scavenger hunt, sleep, chat, walk along the river, ride the rapids, fishing, listen to the birds, cricket & simply enjoying good company, just simply enjoying the great outdoors. You can't get much better than that.

After feeding time, wait......picnics, feeding time is never over hence the grazing! Kym had organised a scavenger hunt of which the 'Ota 'Ota & Johnstone Team won.

Then it was onto the Pitch for a game of 'move over Ricky Ponting, you guessed it, cricket. Well what a field we had...... oh & the players were not bad either. There were some great 6's hit & a few great catches & not so great catches. The length of the pitch seemed to move a little depending on who was batting & bowling. Rules of the game were you had to run if you hit it & you couldn't go out on the first wicket. Kym was practising her fast bowling routine which looked impressive while others we won't even mention because I don't think there's a style that describes it. Batting was great by everyone & Bish did a dive, roll & catch which was superb, one of which he wouldn't repeat for the camera...... where's the papparazi when you need them????

Some teamed up to bat like the Bailey sisters, Rodgers father & daughter, Johnstone & outside leg daughter. HOWZAT for fun & family togetherness. It was a great day out in the park.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 6TH

Just some added bits:

72hr pack: this month we are to obtain the 'pack' for our items to go in. Whether it is a backpack, a bag or even one on wheels for those who have difficulty carrying things.

THere is no woodwork this week due to show day.

Please let Aleitia know if you have been visiting teaching for September please.

Temple recommeds need to be re-issued from a member of the bishopric (no new interviews) They are able to scan and record in the data base with the new ones.

Please remember Maxine in your prayers, as she lost her father last week, funeral on Tuesday.

The lesson today was from Bronwen Gugliotti:

It was on unity and getting along with people. We are all different but striving for the same thing. If you have issues with some one or something, as Bronwen suggests 'Get over it".
We need to move forward and aim for perfection, just like our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Have a wonderful week sisters.
Love the Relief Society Presidency

Sunday

SUNDAY 21 SEPTEMBER

Hi Sisters,
We were rather light on again on Sunday, so I hope those of you who are unwell are feeling better and rearing to go again...

Our lesson on Sunday was given by Sr Lisa Wheeler on the 'Plan of Salvation'.
Lisa (and Collette) drew the Plan of Salvation as a diagram on the blackboard. We learn that we ought to study the plan of salvation more than any other, as it is regarded as one of heaven's best gifts to mankind. There is so much in the lesson, that I encourage you to read it. If you want a better understanding of life before and what happens in life after, it is a must read....

Next weeks lesson is going to be given by Sr Rebecca Ota Ota. It is in the last conference Ensign. It is titles "Born Again" by Elder Christoffhensen.

Just a reminder this month is going fast.....try to get your visiting teaching in. There are so many sister sick who need visits.

Love Bonnie (and Carol, Annette and June).

...here it is Lisa....the recipe

Bircher Muesli- Carol O style

I have only ever made this in bulk using larger quantities but this receipe will still make a fair amount to sustain your taste buds:

3 cups whole rolled oats (I used a combination of a muesli fruit mix from Woollies & rolled oats)
100g slivered or flaked almonds (can also add 100g macadamia & 100g hazelnuts)
1 cup coconut (I used the courser coconut)
1 cup sultanas or make a mixture of sultanas, dried fruit (apple, apricot, peach, pear) diced to your liking (I also diced some tinned peaches)
1 cup milk
2 cups vanilla lite yoghurt (plain brand works)

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl well & cover & refrigerate overnight to soak.
If in the morning it's not loose enough for you just add some more milk or yoghurt or both, whatever takes your fancy.

bon appetite & healthy eating

Sunday Snippetts

Yay...........I have my hard drive back & ready to blog. Thanks to Scott for making some needed upgrades & adjustments.
Sunday's lesson was taught by Sis Ellen on 'Revelation & the Living Prophet'. To have received revelation one needs to to do their homework, as in scripture study & prayer, to name a couple of things
Sis Ellen relayed a story about a YM who wanted to serve in Japan as he spoke Japanese & was sent to Columbia. Of course he was really surprised but to his surprise while on his mission in Columbia was asked to teach 64 Japanese people who wanted to know about the gospel & baptised the 64 people also. This just proves that we really do have to trust in the Lord as he knows best!
Various examples were offered from sisters where revelation was received for that particular person. We must remember that sometimes revelation given to one person, is not neccessarily something that the next person may understand as it may pertain to the person whom it is given to. There are times when we may not understand things but we need to be in tune with the spirit & obey & follow the promptings. Heavenly Father wants to help us & we have to hear with our hearts not our heads. We are blessed to have not only the scriptures but our church magazines, like the Ensign, where we have words of the Lord for us, in our day, through our living prophets.

Sunday Snippetts - Honouring and Strengthening our Priesthood

Today is Fathers day & it's a wonderful time to honour not only our earthly Fathers but our Priesthood, young, middle aged, old & still going strong. Now you're probably wondering what the photo represents. Well I'll keep you guessing for a bit! There are many Priesthood Officers who serve us, The Prophet, Quorum of the Twelve, Stake President, Bishopric, Home Teachers & immediate Priesthood as in your Father, Husband, Son, Grandson or Nephew, just to name a handful. Without the Priesthood we would not have the Church today. What blessings have you received through Priesthood ordinances? Sometimes we don't always obtain the blessings we desire BUT God will somewhere along the line. We have to trust in him. Sometimes it's about teaching us to be humbe, patient and understanding. The Priesthood benefits all church members. They are connected (plugged in) to the powers of Heaven, hence the power chord.

D & C 68:4 'And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord and the power of God unto salvation.'

What can you do to the honour the Priesthood? We can strengthen the Church by supporting the leaders in our Ward & Stake by accepting callings & assignments willingly & fulfilling them
faithfully. If we only think about it as that call from the Priesthood is a call from the Lord.

Sisters pray for our wonderful Priesthood. They need our strength. They have a huge role to play on earth at this time & in particular in our Ward. We cannot do without them & likewise they need our support and love.
Today write a note to a Priesthood Officer, young or old & let them know how much you care & how much their example means to you. It's up to us Sisters to help them and I'm sure we will see the strength and blessings that come along.
Announcements: Don't forget this Tuesday 9th - 10am for Walk, Talk & Eat @ Heritage Forest meeting at Conway Street, Mowbray - bring a picnic morning tea. kym says, SPRING IS HERE, SO SPRING INTO ACTION LADIES!

Friday Club 10am at Jacquies - bring your unfinished craft objects (UFO's)

September is the month for collecting clothing for your 72 hour pack. If you already have clothes in your pack, you'd best check if they have been there for a long time, because you may have changed your shape or maybe not. If you have any clothes that don't fit & are cleaning out, seeing it is spring, send them to Sister Cathy Reeve as she is collecting clothing items for the St Leonards Primary School Fair.

Please keep donating to the knitting basket. If anyone would like some wool to knit items for the basket please let me know.

Have a great week & don't forget next weeks lesson is Revelation and the Living Prophet.

GUESS WHO?????

From 'L' plater blogger to Red Cross Limo, I managed to snap a shot this morning. A certain someone has had a nasty fall & no it wasn't Humpty and is in a leg brace & has crutches. Who is this mystery person. There is a prize for guesssing???? You might say, it's a prize with a twist. Be ready. By the way anyone for frozen vegies?

....you've got to have friends

Introducing........ you picked a fine time to find me LUCILLE. Lucille was happy to help out June with the cutting on Saturday. You know what they say, 'more hands make light work'!

Sunday's Snippets

Our lesson this week was based on the talk "Opening our Hearts", Gerald Lund & presented by Sister Maxine. The voice that speaks to our heart is a voice you feel more than a voice you hear. In terms of our heart & how we are or are not open to hear was expressed in a way using fences, one was a lovely painted picket fence with gate & welcome sign & the other was an 8 foot barbed wire fence with a sign "No Trespassing". God allows us to be our own gate keepers of our own hearts. We are responsible for what we allow our hearts to hear. ' Hence we know that messages can be carried unto the heart but ultimatley to carry it into the heart, is if we allow it & humble ourselves to that still small voice. I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.' Phil 4:13 (this would have to be one of my all time favourite scriptures) .
A Sister stated how writing in her journal, the times when she has most felt the spirit by listening to a speaker & having a witness of the doctrine being taught; how that helps in times when you're feeling down to be strengthened.

To all you sisters who are unwell at the moment, we wish you a speedy recovery. There seems to be so much ill health amongst families in the ward at the moment. Lots of prayers needed, so remember to think of those in your personal & family prayers, even if you're one of the unwell. The more prayers, the more happy smilier faces : )

Helping Hands-East Style

Paparazzi Queen & King, Lisa King & Robert Rattray found roaming at the event.

Today at Newstead Heights School, was a Stake Service Project Activity where we worked in teams to cut & laminate & cut again pages for communication books for individuals who attend the school. There were approximately 100 different pages for each book. Each page filled with a table of different pictures which depicted everything you could possibly think of. Not all the books were exactly the same as they are designed to suit the individual. Many of us tried using these pages to communicate with each other at the tables. It wasn't as easy as you think. Lots of chit chat & laughs were had by many, especially a certain crew of East Ward Sisters. This particular crew had trouble with laminators. The 1st ate one of the pages as it didn't spit out the other end, the 2nd wasn't heating up enough to laminate & the 3rd (just like in the fairytale) was just right & just in case you're wondering it was NOT the operator.
There was a special visit by 'Lucille' to many tables, who just happened to be hanging around the school & was keen to help & check out what everybody was doing.
Who is Lucille, you ask, well you will have to wait for the next post as she is a bit shy at the moment & won't show her face on this spot, mainly because there seems to be a slight technical problem rIghT NOW and the editor is tired.

Stake Enrichment Night

Ahoy me lassies, there be a treasure map to follow & last night we found gold, clues to hidden treasures, & apple pies with that thar yummy whipped cream, arrr! The Enirchment theme was 'Eternal Treasures', Learn from the past, prepare for the future & live in the present. Topics covered were Literacy & Education, Physical Education, Home Production & Storage, Social, Emotional & Spiritual Strength & Financial Management, presented by various sisters & a couple of brethren. It was all about us 'MOVING FORWARD'. "For where your treasure is there will your heart be also"...Matt 6:19-21 The big question, 'R we there yet'? No, but we are well on our way. Sister Kylie marked out a path on the floor, our path in this life, & through it was scattered some of lifes challenges, trials we have along our path. At the end of the path was the Holy Ghost & as an example Sister Deidre was blindfolded & guided by Sister Sasha to the end of the path. Thankfully Sister Deidre listened to the voice that was guiding her and did not tread on the drawing pins or custard tart. Yay! Well done to those sisters who made the night so informative & uplifting, thank you.

Who's pulled all their hair out?

Woo hoo, we did it after much hair pulling & no not of each other. Lisa King (bloggeratzi) & myself (Carol the 'L' plater) have had fun creating this blog. We created it, lost it, found it, lost it & made it again. How'd we do? Can't wait to hear comments from you.

Welcome to our blog!

Yes - finally!! Launceston East Ward has a Relief Society Blog. Please bear with us as we fine tune it. We would love any suggestions and/or comments.
